Webelos 1 Hike

hikersSaturday, October 10th, the Webelos 1 den hiked at Point Mountain Nature Preserve in nearby Port Murray.  Fun was had by all!  Missed it?  Want to go again?  here is the information for your convenience

Directions:

  • Starting from intersection of Rt.31 North and Van Sickles Road, go North on Rt.31
  • Make a Right onto 632 East ( Asbury-Andersen Road) and continue to the end.
  • make a Right onto Rt.57
  • Go straight through Point Mountain traffic light.
  • Continue to Camp Bernie sign (on right)
  • Make a right onto Penwell Road
  • Bear Right (follow Camp Bernie sign) over bridge
  • Make right at 3rd driveway after the bridge -Denmon mailbox
  • Follow gravel drive to parking.

What to Wear:

  1. Hiking boots or sturdy shoes. Sneakers are acceptable but are not advised. (Eventually you will need a pair of hiking books to use for camping and hikes.)
  2. Class A full uniform
  3. Light weight rain jacket

What to Bring:

  1. Backpack (a lightweight day or school pack).
  2. Sandwich and trail snacks.
  3. Non-disposable water bottle and one back up disposable bottle of water, both filled with water.
  4. Flashlight and or headlamp.
  5. Pocket knife, but only if you have a Whittling Chit card (must be in your possession during the hike).
  6. Walking stick, if you have one
  7. Camera
  8. Siblings are welcome if they are at least as old as your Scout.

The start of this hike is straight up hill and is a challenging “4″ on a scale from 1 to 5. Please be prepared with the list of items provided, pack lightly, make sure shoes and socks are of good quality. This is the third tallest point in Hunterdon County and the views will make for some great photos.
