Stephens State Park Camping Extravaganza!

On the weekend of October 7 -9th, Pack 119 experienced the first camping trip of the year at Stephens State Park in Hacketstown, NJ. The weather was absolutely perfect for this time of year! High temperatures reaching the low 80’s and cool evening in the low 50’s made evening campfires extra special! Members from all den ranks participated from Tigers to Webelos.

During late Friday afternoon/early evening, families arrived to their campsites to setup tents, cook dinner, and sit by their campfires. On Saturday morning, there was a flag ceremony, hiking, biking, geocaching, wood carving, and there was a demonstration on how to build a fire without matches, hosted by the den co-leaders!

One of the greatest attractions was a side trip planned at nearby historic Waterloo Village where we were entertained by a side exhibit showing how the native Lenape Indians lived in their beautiful natural habitat. The tour was guided by an experienced park worker. It was both informative and entertaining. At the end of the tour, the cubs and families played native Indian games and crafted clay items the way Indians did when they lived in this location.

During the evening, the Pack gathered at the Cub Master’s fire to show off new skits, songs and jokes. Lights were out at 9PM and the adults got to kick back a little bit and enjoy some social time by the fire. Pack life does not get much better than this!
